I toyed with the idea of putting soft copper sheets under my upholstery with a Peltier chip and blower on the other side.

I remember old VWs had that indestructable, perforated vinyl (same on my old Benz) and horsehair or coconut fiber stuffing. Smelled a little funny yet really kept the seats cool on hot days. I imagine finding a supportive foam that had breathable air passages might be unubtainium. Howver, if I found such a foam, I might be just run cooling, de-compressed air under the seat and seat back.

Am surprised however, even with their inefficiencies, that nobody seems to sell peltier cooled seat other than luxury car makers. I lookd up such seats, used on FleaBay and the seem more expensive than a whole A/C system.

Any thoughts? Thanks, Mark

Last I tried, you could get the aircooled VW seat fabric in normal upholstery rolls the same as the previous roof headliner material. Coco fiber is harder to come by since it's no longer in vogue, however there are so called breathing foam formulations. There are white fluffy plastic based backfills that breath, too. I myself find a fabric pattern in a loose weave to be more comfy.

Being in DC your biggest problem is humidity and the removal therein. Won't cool if it can't evaporate.
