Worth blocking in back on hubcaps

I've given up finding pizza trays big enough to cover my wheels. Would it be worth blocking in the rear of my hubcaps? I've got some thin plastic disposable catering sandwich trays, I was thinking of cutting plastic triangles out of them and attaching them to the back of the hub caps.

I know the hub cap won't be smooth but will it help?

Your mods will probably help, but not a whole lot,
which is to say it may not be measurable.

In total the wheel well and tire contribution to Cd for all four
wheels and wells is ~0.09. You might decrease that by 0.005
if you're lucky, which would mean gas savings out in the 3rd
decimal place of MPGs.

Then again, if it ain't hurtin' the numbers, why not give it
a go.

That's what Metro did to his car, and he probably has a write-up on it.

Easiest and probably cheapest way would be to find some nice flat ones that fit at a junkyard.

I say, go for it. I would think keeping air on the outside of the wheel would be beneficial, whether the surface is perfectly smooth or not.

Ok here's the results:

Front of cap with gaps for valve and so I can tie-wrap it to the wheel

Back of the hub cap showing the plastic triangles glued on

Plastic triangles cut from catering sandwich serving tray (yes I get funny looks after meetings when I take the trays away!)
