I would try to buy the newest model I could get ,the 98 and older maybe even 99 have an engine vibration issue and a smaller gearbox oil capacity which may not be a factor , I made a upper grille block out of sheet plastic/foam I got from a local plastic supplier , I will try to post a pic , had a bit of trouble figuring it out but it looks good and seemed to give one mpg,I run 42 psi front and 40 rear psi on yokohama tires and overly wide custom wheels that came with it , but it does handle well,

350 miles/week @ 35 mpg = 10 gallons vs
350 miles/week @ 40 mpg = 8.75 gallons;
with $4/gallon gas that's $5/week.

with $4/gallon gas that's $5/week or $20 a week for the real car.
If your going for the gusto you might as well alter driving habits and get an insight, though a subaru 360 comes close.

Too bad there are only a handfull of cars that are real easy to get above 60mpg and they all likely cost more than $2k when purchased under normal circumstances.

Well in my case its 650 miles a week at 41 mpg or 16 gallons versus 26 gallons in the 25 mpg ranger for a total savings of around 36.$ a week big difference and ppaid for 1100$ car a while ago, one trouble though the ranger needs less expensive repairs than the ranger, which I can usually fix myself , but still a good deal since the escort is nicer and has AC

anything but a geo metro

My friend used to have 3 of those things ,the reason he got to three was .Something would go wrong it was cheaper to buy another car with a good part then it was to buy the part or close to it. Those things are junk the doors are tin can thin. I watched my friend get stuck in a snodrift going down the road,pathetic... His horn cover was a different color and we said it was the tear collector because of the shame in driving said geo. If you really hate life and want everyone to laugh at you,buy a geo aka sham-o, I drive a civic its not the best but I can pass people and go over 90 without shaking apart. Its quality built ,reliable,cheap to operate(low cost of replacement parts and frequency of needing to repair) ok mpg 35-38 in mich. I say that cause we have sno and bullets (you need to hit the gas when shots ring out).

it's not WHAT you drive, it's HOW you drive. know how to use your tool and use the right tool for the job.
and watch out for those snodrifts.

it was just my opinion

I just wanted whoever be warned. I also am talking about quality of parts how easy it was to do routine tasks,etc. It was also intended to be funny. I however have had lots of cars. I like civics because in my area they are easy to find for about 1000 -2000 in good shape. I bought my 92 dx for 800 with 110,000,one owner,non smoker car. They are easy to service and parts are cheap . If i got one of those dern mpguinos, I guess you can get 50mpg out of the the little thing.
