xfi metro camshaft

Gents. According to Haynes manual and the two camshafts sitting beside my desk, the lobe height on the 91 and earlier metro camshaft is the same as on the xfi camshaft. Are they the same camshaft?

Once MetroMPG chimes in, you should have a good answer.

Welcome to the board as well.

Where do you live? I actually just heard today that MK3 base cars sold in Canada were all XFi spec. It's hard to find reliable info - I should say it' hard to find verifiable info.

The XFi cam I put in my car had lobe heights in the 39.628 to 39.788 mm range, which is what I was expecting for an XFi. The original cam I took out had taller lobes.

If they're the same was there not an XFi or is the difference in the tranny?

Canada never had the XFi badge. Don't ask me why not. I wish I'd been paying more attention to these cars when they were still selling them.

Already checked: Canada's ratings only go back to '95. And I'm not sure if the info I was given applies to the US cars.

I live in western Montana. The 39mm height is correct for both the xfi and the 91 and earlier metro. That does not mean that they are the same cam as there may be other differences. If they are the same, it would make it a lot easier to get an 'xfi' cam!

You're right - it could have different lift rates or duration. But if I had to guess, I'd say they're probably the same.

Know what I'd do: head over to the teamswift.net forum and ask there. Someone may have a definitive answer.
