You think a company no one has heard of can beat teala?
I would pay to see that.

I hope Rivian will make vehicles for consumers eventually. But I don't think Rivian will has a truck to sell me before Tesla does. It would be nice to be wrong on this one ... Tesla appears to be accelerating .. they will be tough to catch.

Beat Tesla to market? Yes. Tesla consistently misses their product launch targets by years. The Semi and Roadster were suppose to enter production in 2019. This week Musk said the Semi was being pushed back again to 2021 and their is no target for the Roadster.
The Model S was late
The Model X was late
The Model 3 was late
The Model Y was late (To the original schedule of 1 year behind the 3)
FSD is years late and still not available. This week Musk said it MIGHT be available by the end of the year. Last year he said all Teslas would be fully self driving robo-taxis by June 2020 at the very latest.
With Tesla's track record we should expect the CyberTruck to be years late to market and come in over the promised price.

Rivian was way ahead of Tesla with the pickup. They had working prototypes 2 years ahead of them. Although they are new and small that was their only product. I don't know if Amazon's vans have pushed them back. I doubt it, they have taken big deposits for the pickup. Tesla is at capacity already for their current line. They have to bring on new production or cut back on model Y or X. Maybe demand for that stuff is dropping enough to stop production on one of them, but I really don't think the Cyberteuck was as ready as everyone thinks. I believe that was an early prototype, why they can change so many things on the fly at this point. We'll see. This pandemic has delayed everything from everyone.

Elon is losing his mind on Twitter about the Covid lockdown right now. I mostly agree with him, it was overdone in most states. He's a little, umm, extreme about it.
Anyway, Ford is really struggling. I guess dropping the Rivian partnership wasn't too surprising.

It looks like in 2019 Rivian got 500 million from Ford (which may be pulled now), 700 million from Amazon ( to work on their vans which were due starting 2021 and 10,000 by 2022. But they got 1.3 Billion from T Rove Price to get the consumer pickup out due starting 2020. It seems the biggest capitol is coming in to support the pickup.

Musk gets a $750 million payday if Tesla’s market cap averages $100 billion over a 6 month period. Last I heard the 6 month average was $96 billion.
Tesla will also be listed on the S&P 500 if Tesla shows a profit in the 2nd quarter. If they show a loss the clock restarts at zero.
That is a lot of motivation to get his people back to work.

I wouldn't hold my breath for anything Elon Musk says. Seems like he enjoys promising the impossible...
