$3.85 on the MO side of the river on Sunday. It actually took about $40 to fill the Vibe... About $4.05 on the IL side I think.
Many of my Facebork friends are chatting about high gas prices, too. Without getting into the politics, environmental issues, etc., I usually comment, "Hypermiling is your friend." We gotta try to illicit some curiosity in the folks who think they're stuck with that EPA-estimated FE!

Of course the US has never had mad cow - "falling cow" is not related - no no no no.... 
That's a fairly decent tour of south and south-west Britain. Lancia withdrew from the UK in the early 1990s so you may have had a Dedra (not named for success in an English speaking market is it - although it was a decent car for the time). It was really a FIAT Tipo and Tempra with a different badge.
£65 a tank was a lot in the mid 90s - are you sure it was a Lancia ? At the time I was fueling a Mondeo company car at £35 a time and it was killing me in money terms - until I discovered company car fuel claim mileage of course.
As a comparison you will get roughly £60 a week on some benefits in the UK welfare state system but a tank of Diesel currently costs me £75+ for ~700 miles.

My memory is not always perfect -- this was a relative's car. My sister-in-law was married to a British fellow at the time. It was not a new vehicle; fairly large car for the time -- about the size of a Volvo 144?
Driving in England was fun, but I also liked taking the fast train up to Edinburgh.

In last Friday's newspaper there was an article about oil prices. Here is a map of European gasoline (95 octane) prices, in PLN per liter (multiply by 1.44 to get USD per US gallon, at today's exchange rate).

I see prices range from $6.88-10.67/gal. Some of these countries have relatively low per capita incomes, as well. It makes me wonder, what percent of Croatians or Turks drive to work every day?

The two most expensive countries surprised me. Norway is one of the richest countries, and has lots of natural gas, but apparently this doesn't translate into cheap fuel.
On the other hand Turkey isn't exactly a rich country, so I doubt that they would be paying taxes like that. Or maybe this is how the Turkish gov't is fighting emissions? I bet every Turk that can cross EU border fills up in Bulgaria, where petrol is cheapest.

This used to happen on the Channel Tunnel - all those Brits filling up to the brim just before loading their cars onto the trains.
Ironically those overfilled brimming petrol / diesel tanks - some made of plastic - are fine, however having a steel Autogas tank means you can't use the Chunnel.
