I agree with ben. Actually, that was a good idea that you had. I'd do the same thing, it's just that the summary for each index would just be an Oprah joke.

This might be why your motor heats up so much.... :P
Sorry OP.

72v == too much heat?
Hmm.... oh ya. But it has become manageable with my amazing blower!!!!! And plus, it's ok if the motor gets sort of hot.

I would like to get up to 55 MPH at least so I can pop onto the freeway for a few miles when I need to. I'm only looking for 20-30 miles range, though, so I think 72 volts sounds right.
|
I'm with Ben: I think you'd be hard pressed to get to 55 mph in "normal" traffic with a 72v car, unless you're going downhill, with the Santa Ana winds at your back. I'd consider 90v a minimum for occasional highway duty. And you'd measure acceleration to 55 mph with an hourglass.

In an earlier message you briefly discussed overvolting your motor, but haven't done so yet.
|
Nope. But the Motor Expert Husted said we could probably safely overvolt the motor in the car to 120v without problems.
Overvolting DC motors is common. The issues you have to deal with are: heat dissipation and brush timing.
Good luck with your project!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
Well, the ForkenSwift is going to hibernate for this winter; I just cancelled the liability insurance.
Ivan has enough on his plate (and vehicles in his driveway) that he hasn't been using it much anyway. If I were in Ontario, I probably would have kept using it for my local driving, like last winter. Though I would have had to make a serious undercoating effort in the fall (which I didn't) to keep rust at bay.
So keeping it off Ontario's salty winter roads is actually a really good thing for a car of its age and, um, metallurgical condition.
ZZZZZ. Aside from a once-a-month maintenance charge on the batteries, this EV will snooze until April.

Ever heard the term "punishment car"?
Click here for the first Google search result of the term as it relates to the EV scene. The reference is about halfway down the page, by Tesla's co-founder Martin Eberhard.
Couldn't resist registering " punishmentcar.com" and pointing it at the ForkenSwift domain.

Wrightspeed is in hibernation, I believe. Interesting about the similarities with the Forkenswift!

Electric Vehicle Expo: Ottawa, Canada - May 23
Tasdrouille and I were talking about EcoModder attendance at this year's EV Expo in Ottawa.
I know there are several Ottawa EM members, as well as others not too far away in Quebec, south/eastern Ontario and northern NY state.
Make plans to come on up!
See this thread: EV Expo - Saturday May 23, 2009 in Ottawa (some pics posted)
