Of course even polycarbonate will break, but its much tougher than acryl. Even tanks are not bulletproof :/. Floorford understood correctly, if your polycarbonate cover will broke you propably have rim or tire also broken. But on normal driving no problems.
Price is that at the moment, and aluminium caps are the only ones I have at the moment. Those aluminium caps are very expensive to be milled and that makes the price much higher. Those can be painted to any color or even anodised if you like them to be more bling. Covers dont need to be clear they can also be tinted like in most of the pictures.
Lets put it this way, if you have your clear covers over your rims outer edge, the cover gets scrapes and not your rim. Your rims will cost in 17" size 80-250$ per piece.
