Lexan/polycarbonate will also break upon impact. Breakage is a function of how hard the impact. To say otherwise is a little disingenuous.

I saw that post too and was thinking that if my wheel cover breaks then I have bigger problems that making a new cover. Like a bent rim or popped tire.

Of course even polycarbonate will break, but its much tougher than acryl. Even tanks are not bulletproof :/. Floorford understood correctly, if your polycarbonate cover will broke you propably have rim or tire also broken. But on normal driving no problems.

Price is that at the moment, and aluminium caps are the only ones I have at the moment. Those aluminium caps are very expensive to be milled and that makes the price much higher. Those can be painted to any color or even anodised if you like them to be more bling. Covers dont need to be clear they can also be tinted like in most of the pictures.

Lets put it this way, if you have your clear covers over your rims outer edge, the cover gets scrapes and not your rim. Your rims will cost in 17" size 80-250$ per piece.

I have calculated the price for first order batch and it will be 70 US $ shipped to USA or Canada. That will include 20 ziptie plugs + 20 pcs of 300 mm long black release funstion zipties. Shipping is 21 $ of that sum. One ziptie plug will cost 2,5$ if you need them more than 20 pieces...

I just want to make it clear the ziptie plugs will be at this point manufactured from two pieces. Aluminium cap + locking mechanism "head" from regular release function ziptie. Provided zipties are also with quick release function.

I just bought myself a own milling machine and tomorrow I will start milling those aluminium caps for the plugs.

PETG plastic is the stuff used for soft drink bottles, is everywhere, and almost as tough as polycarbonate but a fraction of the cost. It's about as easy as working with acrylic, without the problems working with polycarbonate.

If we all drive like sane people and dont try to see how close we can get to high curbs we will avoid the whole rim scraping incidents. Ive had my car for 6 years and have yet to cut it too close to a curb.

For a really cost effective solution, I gotta think the extended lug bolts makes the most sense. $70 for zip ties? Lug bolts should be cheaper than that, right? The only problem I see is how to tighten the lugs when you can't use a socket because of the length, and it's recessed into the wheel so you can't use a wrench?

But just extend 2 lug bolts and drill 2 holes in your wheel cover. Tighten with another set of nuts. If they get dirty, it's pretty easy to take them off and clean.
