That's what I thought, until I tried to find examples and specific discussions and started seeing assertions that small differences between the 4th generation and the 5th/6th, as well as between the 5th/6th and the 7th generation D-series tranys made them incompatible without some modification. But all of the 1992-2000 d-series engines/tranys are definitely interchangeable.
