I'm very interested to see what GM does with this platform. It currently gets slightly worse combined rated mileage than the Cobalt XFE, if I'm not mistaken. Though GM has promised to make it a "class leader" in its next iteration (whatever that means - technically, the Aveo isn't in the same class as the Yaris).
Suzuki is bringing back the Swift to the U.S. in 2010. According to the Global Suzuki page, their smallest engine is a 1.3L. I'd love to get it in a diesel. However, at about $11k, the Yaris is arguably the class leader right now.
