GVW is the biggie here, 10 k trailer and adding truck weight are pushing the limits for non commercial licenses in some states.

It won't be more than a 3500 Ram and what it can tow. You don't need a commercial license unless you are doing commerce. It will be similar to a Ram 2500. Notice the 8 lug wheels?

I don't know if a long range Lightning will cost less. I almost guarantee the Silverado with 220kWh is going to cost more. It's possible the Ramcharger is less than a Ram Rev depending on the battery size. That will be the real tell if this is a good idea or not. The cab, suspension, and options cam be matched on a Rev vs Ramcharger.

What makes this better than a Lightning is not the 10,000 vs 14,000 pound tow rating, it's the 3 minute vs hour recharge time.

GVWR matters for tax credits and regulations The Federal $7500 tax credit only applies for light duty vehicles with a GVWR under 14,000 lbs. Above 14,000 the credit is potentially larger ($40,000) but only available to businesses.

For CARB it is only Class 2B (10,000 lbs and under)

Guess it's time I get a commercial license and register a business so I can get a Tesla semi and $40k subsidies for my daily driver.

The GVWR will surely be under 10,000.

I saw another comparison between the Rev and the Ramcharger. As the frame and suspension seem to be shared the Rev has up to a 2700 pound payload vs the Ramcharger's 2625. So it would appear the Ramcharger is 75 pounds heavier with a full tank of fuel than a standard range Rev with a 168 kWh battery. It also comes with a 229 kWh option which I'm sure makes the Rev much heavier.

With a 2700 pound payload the truck itself is not going to weigh more than 11,300. My guess is it will weigh about 7365 pounds to put the GVWR at that 9990 pound limit for what normally is considered a 3/4 ton vs a one ton.

So far we have 3 electric trucks for sale. One of them - the Hummer EV - has a GVWR of 10,550 lbs and a payload less than 1500 lbs. So it isn't a given that an electric truck will be under 10K.

I think RAM would be wise to keep it under $10K but then again there could be some advantages to having it over 10K to help them meet the CARB medium / heavy duty ZEV mandate.

They would sell a ton at that price.

I've been saying forever this is the best way to achieve EV uptake. You can commute to work for pennies on the dollar, you can go on that roadtrip once a month without worrying about chargers, and you can still tow your toys and RV.

If it's reliable and cost effective, its going to take over the half ton market.
