While I agree that the Cybertruck needs at least a matte clear Plastidip, and the result is better than the black-and-white one from earlier — still, think about how they sell that stuff in 25gm baggies and half of it wound up on the floor. Then they peel $$$$ worth off at the end.

My vote is bluminum.The competition for Plastidip will be vinyl wrap and Rhino-liner.

People are commenting on how if you want a lumber rack you can just weld it to the shell.

I'm planing on clear gloss heli tape/ clear bra etc. It's used on OEM application where stone chips are a problem. Costs around $1000 to do a whole car DIY, but it's easier than wrap and has a much longer life. Can be cleaned and buffed like regular paint.

Toying with the idea of doing an advertising wrap, they pay pretty good money for big vehicles and I'm not worried about how it will look or damage to paint during install/ removal.

If the glass roof makes production I plan on having some stainless or alloy lazer cut and bonded over the glass - too hot for that non-sense here.

I'm pretty sure there will be a lumber rack provision. Americans seem to have no imagination when it comes to their three box pick ups. All it would take is a bed stake like old trucks had - pop out the blanking plate and drop in the rack. Failing that it could extend down and bolt to the rear bumper. Could even attach to the towbar mounting points.

Being a unibody also means it could have a load through hatch and folding rear seat - so transport of full size sheets would be easy.

I see nothing but possibilities

Well, it takes more than small details to bring 0.48 down to 0.30.

But maybe the 0.48 model did not take this in account:

A completely flat underbody.

I don't understand why anyone thinks 0.48 is a thing. It's way better than any truck sold today, no cooling package, smooth underside and a kamm back. The styling isn't that different to my 84 Celica and that managed ~0.34 in the 80's - the 'all curves' 94 model only managed 0.32. Today's 'full size' Euro vans manage 0.30-0.36 with a completely square rear.

Hucho shows how much gain can be made just by moving an inch here and there, so unless the 0.48 model is from CAD data it's meaningless. All the model proved is that the roof peak isn't the aero nightmare that it first appears.

The .48 model was actually questioned by another aeronautical engineer, "The underbody rear diffuser will never work so nice like in your simulation." Basically saying the .48 was giving the underside and rear exit the perfect possible design even though nobody knows how it will actually be.

Tesla tested and basically designed the truck in the wind tunnel to optimize whatever could be done while having flat panels with hard edges. It would be weird if it were less than optimal within those constraints.

If Musk aims at getting it down to 0.30 you can bet the 0.48 of the model is high rather than low.

He doesn't aim to get .3, he said it isn't. 3 and won't be without serious changes. I don't think they spent more than a few minutes thinking about aerodynamics on this truck, it's a whole different thing than anything else they have ever designed.

0.30 de-obfuscates and captures wayward periods.

The chamfers that reduce the stagnation area and the softly angled edges that reattach longitudinal vortexes, as aerohead is discussing in the other thread, suggest it is carefully reasoned. Not to mention the separation edge in the rear.
