Bought me a Metro...

I've checked around and it seems for the 155 80/13, you only get one choice, and it's not a snow tire, but it is all season. If I went with a 175 70/13 I'd have a variety of choices. I've almost always had good luck with all season tires, but I used to drive Subarus that would go just about anywhere anyways. One winter I had tires that were worn out and I got a free set of Nokian studded snows that had a few seasons on them, but still had tread left, and that Subaru was like a snowmobile with those shoes.

I think I'll go with the 155s, and if they aren't going to cut it, then I'll find an extra set of rims and find some real snow tires. I'd want to run the 155s in the summer anyway, and they are nice and cheap.

I'd go with the snows in a wider tire right off the bat if they don't have them in 155 width.

EDIT: block heater is more effective than a WAI! The shorter your commute, the greater a block heater's impact on your fuel economy. But they're also nicer to the engine, and it's great to get heat sooner too.

I went from the 155/80R13 to the 175/70R13 on my Metro and I really like how the car handles with the slightly wider tires. Fuel economy took a slight hit, but it's worth the extra stability.

Just put some 13" Mudders on the Metro. The 12's would get stuck on a flat parking lot. Not this year!

I've had no trouble with my front-studded 145 X 12s. But my friends know if I've been driving on their snow. :-) It is mostly gentle grades and cold, grippy ice here, though.
