Welcome to the Nanny State (that of "kinder, gentler" authoritarianism). In this new version powerful Nannies (and wanna-be Nannies) decide whether those outside the mainstream can voice criticism or a unpopular viewpoints - or not. (Nanny! He's upsetting us! Make him shut up!)

Are we now seeing the iron fist in the velvet glove? Personally I prefer the fist to be shown for what it is, without denial or pretense. Mature adults have no need of nannies, nor do they aspire to be nannies or to persuade the powers that be (in any society or community) to capitulate to the demands of those who play pressure politics by screaming, whining, protestation, threat of leaving the playground, etc.. Some nannies (and most political leaders) can't say NO to these tactics.

Is such behavior political? You bet it is!

I'll run with scissors if I damn well please (metaphorically and physically), as I am not a child.

I think we could have an ongoing thread to stay in the lounge section, because as time goes on, the mpg. talk is just going to increase a lot, and government mandates, and manufacturers HAVE TO'S will all be blending together.

The question I pose is: can everyone stay civil toward opposing views????
