That is the mindset of a self-appointed nanny: <Ha-ha I Fooled you, didn't I? I couldn't resist replying and had no intention of leaving the thread, I just wanted to exert some unduly influence over the moderators.> If enough people whine, scream and threaten this way, the administrators will cave into our demands, right?
Now tell me that THAT is anything less than a political strategy and that what is in play in this thread is anything less than a fantasy referendum where those who scream the loudest hope to prevail. All of life is political as long as there is power in numbers. The mob that screams the loudest or complains they are being offended the most, wins - if they can get the administration to cave to their demands. Those who throw the biggest tantrum are rewarded. THAT, in and of itself
IS the nature of modern politics.
Pure democracy with no restraint drifts toward being merely nothing more than mob rule.
Welcome to the Nanny State (that of "kinder, gentler" authoritarianism). In this new version powerful Nannies (and wanna-be Nannies) decide whether those outside the mainstream can voice criticism or a unpopular viewpoints - or not. (Nanny! He's upsetting us! Make him shut up!)
Are we now seeing the iron fist in the velvet glove? Personally I prefer the fist to be shown for what it is, without denial or pretense. Mature adults have no need of nannies, nor do they aspire to be nannies or to persuade the powers that be (in any society or community) to capitulate to the demands of those who play pressure politics by screaming, whining, protestation, threat of leaving the playground, etc.. Some nannies (and most political leaders) can't say NO to these tactics.
Is such behavior political? You bet it is!
