Maybe a contract to expand EV West by about 10x?

The Beast should be a semi chassis rendered in Cybertruck stainless steel. With flamethrowers.

Not so sure about the Cybertruck theme. Let's suppose The Beast effectively becomes a full EV, it would eventually be more likely to take design cues from the Tesla Model S or the Model X.

But anyway, as long as some plug-in serial hybrids remain titled as an "extended-range" EV, I'd still believe an approach similar to what Wrightspeed developed for retrofits into commercial trucks and buses. I would still rather place a bet on something based on the Silverado 6500 frame (just like The Beast currently sits on a Chevy Kodiak chassis), with a Capstone microturbine driving a generator. The claimed multifuel ability of microturbines may eventually render such approach viable even for military vehicles and equipments.

They should base it on the Nikola One, so it can roll down the Hill.

Well not an EV for the USPS massive contract, the largest part of any federal fleet. Maybe in the future they can change it over but if history is any indication once these gas trucks will be what the PO is using for the next 20+ years.

The design will allow the vehicle to be equipped with either an internal combustion engine or a battery-electric powertrain. The Postal Service has told Oshkosh to ensure that the electric truck can be retrofitted to keep pace with electric vehicle technology advances.
Sounds like they'll be both?

Oh I'm sure 4-5 years from now they'll make a hundred of them EV for some show pony status somewhere. The 100,000+ will be standard 3.7 duratec Ford V6. The Oshkosh was the only pure gasoline prototype to make the final. The 2nd was pure EV and the 3rd a hybrid.

Yep, and in 4-5 years we'll have only 12 years left to avert existential calamedy, just like all the years.

... somehow I've become a curmudgeon before my time. Combined with my immaturity, somehow I adopt the worst qualities of both the young and the old.

We're all approaching the Singularity from various starting points.

My main point is this is the largest portion of the federal fleet and they just locked in totally conventional gas powertrains for the next 20+ years.

heck, I'll take the optimistic position and say maybe 10 years into the future somewhere someone will make a full swappable electric motor package that just bolts in
