Hey folks, had to take a break from the Ghia for a bit. Had a couple other projects get out in front of it. Hopefully I’ll get after it in a few weeks or so. Currently I’m trying to button up a couple things on a 1977 Fiberfab Aztec 7 kit car. 1450 pound Volkswagen based car. Curious what the mpgs will be. I’ll keep you posted on the Prius soon.

Since the subject has come up, I was looking at old Torchinsky articles and I found this one, A fiberglass knockoff of the Karmann Ghia with an aluminum frame and twin electric motors:
Torchlopnik: The First Electric 'Volts-wagen' Was Named For A Dentist
A Ghia with 1958 DeSoto tailights? Why not — the Ghia design was cribbed from Virgil Exner.

The Aztec 7 is my pet project. I found it last fall and have wanted a kit car since I was a kid. I plan on driving it through the spring with a for sale sign on it. Really want to be driving the Ghia.

What does it have for a drivetrain? Butterfly doors? What will you ask for it?

1970 vw 1600 single port. Yes, it has gullwing doors. I’ll start at $4000. Motor and trans have 67,000 miles on them.

Article says 75-80 miles from "4 automotive 12v batteries" which doesn't seem right.
This article shows a pic of the actual battery bank... quite a bit more than that. It also says the car weighed over 3000 lbs. With a KG body made of fiberglass on an aluminum frame.

Using my FLA ranger experience, it has about 30 kwh available, 15 useable. Something like 120 to 200 Vdc. So using rule of thumb 3000 lbs, 100 miles possible, typical would be 75 miles anticipating more than 3 years battery life. Unless using more expensive calcium leaded forklift batteries.
Half vehicle weight is battery pack.

My Volt has a max of about 50 miles driving normalish with 10.5kwhrs available
It would surprise me if even a small discontinued pickup could do as good at any normal rate of speed.
If you are going 100 miles you are likely using more than 15kwhr of juice
