The battery heat problem was solved with the first chemistry change in 2013 from that used in 2011 and 2012 leafs; and now the chemistry change of 2016 batteries and forward have the heat issue solved the same as 2013 and newer but with an additional 30% increase in capacity... it may not (yet) be Moores law but it is rapid and reasonable for a budding industry.

And just wait till the aftermarket starts dissecting ev's for and with upgrades and performance mods

Teknomage, there is no evidence that the '13 chemistry change significantly affected durability compared to '11-12. While '15+ maybe improved, it's still too early to know how much.

You can be reasonably sure that the '16 30kWh chemistry is improved given the significantly better warranty.

IMO the increase unusable range that the 30kWh pack will give over the 24kWh makes it a no brainer unless you are leasing for 2-3 years or don't ever need more than 50 miles of range between charges for as long as you plan on keeping the car.

Over on TMC there are guys looking to do aero covers but instead of drilling the wheels they are using extended lug nuts with M5 holes tapped into them for mounting the cover. Seems like a much better way to do it as you avoid permanently modifying the wheels.

What's on it's way in the next few months from one supplier is a re-furb Telsa drivetrain, with the firmware flashed to support the reverse-engineered CAN bus controls; ready to drop into your '64 T-Bird or jet black Hudson Hornet 4-door.

That's the consensus I've been seeing on the LEAF forum for a while now.

I'm probably going to pick up an 11-12 anyway and hope for the best.
I'd prefer a news one, but I wouldn't feel bad screwing around with the 11-12 at the prices that they go for.
