the nissan leaf is warrantied to go 10 years or 100,000 miles on its battery and at the end of that warrantied period still retain 70% of its original range. so as the battery degrades in 10+ years the stock range of 100 miles per charge will reduce to 70 miles per charge and past the 10 year mark well, i imagine there will be a leaf with a degraded battery that only holds 10 miles of charge but still being used to go get groceries....

the replacement battery is $5000 plus core, so would you pay $5000 up front for enough fuel to go 100,000+ maintenance free miles?

additionally in 10+ years or whenever you decide that a mere 20 miles per charge is just too little for you anymore, the battery replacement will be of a newer better technology. As it stands now this 2012 leaf came with a range of 100 miles new, if we put a "new" battery in it it would automagically upgrade it to a range of 125 miles due to battery improvements that have been made over the last 3 years.

so the battery questions many have about ev's is actually the smallest concern, of the truly elegant facts of the electron drivetrain to fixate upon:

an EV has a nearly maintenance free drivetrain, capable of millions of miles without major repair. the electric motor has 2 bearings and 1 moving part what is there to wear out... tires and ball joints!

the electric drivetrain can be easily adapted to be actuated by any new or breakthrough technologies made available to manifest electrons. it seems we cannot manifest gasoline without a military aircraft carrier! and you think batteries are expensive!

the electron drivetrain has a zero warmup time it is always delivering peak efficiency. ever ketch yourself putting off moving your car around your yard because the engine is cold? don't want to run it without a full warmup? well the leaf is ready to go anytime with trippple the overall system efficiency as an ICE!

almost every electric car ever produced in the last 150 years remains unbroken; with a fresh set of brushes an update to a electronic control, and modern batteries even this vintage breakthrough vehicle could again deliver worry free miles...

Lohner-Porsche - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

truly the electric car is our future the sooner we embrace that fact the sooner life will improve for all the animals and planet including humans... we can go on building approximately 8 4000# ICE cars for every human lifespan and fighting over the overcapitalized limited resources that fuels them and makes us and the planet sick; Or we can build EV's that can last a lifetime and be fueled by petrol or any other form of energy that can be harvested into electrons. whichever we choose is what our generations will inherit as the litter upon the land. Once the internal combustion engine is detached from the powertrain and relegated to electricity generation we will see powertrain warranties hit 6 digits.

in just a few more generations the 100 year blip of "vroom vroom vroom" will disappear from the human vernacular!

on that day the world will be where we should have been in 1930 where tesla the father of the modern world of electricity, radio, and technologies; wanted for humanity.

Isn't it considered good manners to obscure license plate numbers in posted pictures? I know I do.

I always thought that was to protect your personal anonymity. I guess I don't see how it matters if he doesn't care about disclosing personal info.

Understood. That was for teknomage2012's benefit.

I phoned up a friend who has a Leaf and pointed him toward this thread.

What is privacy annyways these days, have you googled yourself lately?
Besides the government already keeps tabs on us all down to our last wee; and who else is there to hide from than them?
I have found through life experience the majority of humans to be kind and trustable as we walk about our brief lives upon this blue marble
I am glad to participate in fourms like this with minds like who concern themselves with how we leave this blue marble for subsequent generations after our single brief one...
I would rather spend my time in this persuit than scrubbing my existance from the record!

Oh, hold on gotta go, I hear a drone; gotta go pose for my selfie for uncle sam....

You're free to do so of course. When one is posting or re-posting other's license plates, though, I think it is—as I said—good manners. cRiPpLe_rOoStEr in the 'in the wild thread' does so consistently, in red.

As to your second point; I have no problem with the alphabet agencies monitoring my bathroom habits, but they open up holes that the wild-eyed freaks and bad actors pile through. I tried Googling my IRL name, some doctor in Sydney, Oztralia has claimed it on Facespook and all the other social media. The only one that found me was Spokeo, because I'm in the phone book. But there were 6 false positives.

Anyways, 'do what thou wilt...'

Now, we drive around with our license plates on full view to the public (which, depending on how far you travel, could be thousands of views per day), which is also kind of the point of having plates. I'm asking legitimately, is there a reason to be more concerned about a picture of one's license plate appearing on a forum such as this?
