ok, so reducing alternator load should be even more important than I originally thought.

and that is realtime, no time to measure...it is there at all times. like a thread to a pc. In away, the gain is hugely underestimated as you have written. I mean, that power is going to go to the coil..stronger fire...all kinds of stuff goes with the gain.
the mystery with the keyword "diode" and dispersal of what the alternator is producing becomes cleaner. I cannot really put into words what I deciphered. It is not simple.. I can say that. I am guessing, the same 5 year routine of rust spots won't return ...
awesome thread. I never thought something this simple would go as far as it is in my own old car.

Anyone have the difference in watts going from incadescents to LEDs? I'm not familiar with the watts used by either one, but it would be fun to figure. My wife is hesitant to change the looks of her ride, but changing out light bulbs wouldn't fall in that category

The incandescent bulbs are about 2-4watts, I think? The LED's are about ~60 milliamps (0.8watt?). I could be wrong, but the power difference is there, but it ain't big compared to say the headlights.

The big difference is heat: if the incandescents are on for more than 30s, you can get burned touching them. The LED are barely warm.

Are you talking about the flashers? In my car there 6 flasher bulbs, 21W each. I've replaced 2 with LEDs, ~3-4W each. Incandescent 2-4W bulbs are weak, my position lights are 5W, 2 (of 4) replaced with LEDs, <1W each.
As for the headlights: 2 x 55W plus all the extras (position lights - 4 x 5W, license plate - 2 x 5W, dashboard lights - alot x 5-10w), total ~200W. I installed DRLs 2 x 5.5W. I can see the difference in my idle consuption (0.62 liter/h with headlights, 0.52 l/h without).

Shipping $

When you ordered from SUPER BRIGHT LEDS - LED Lights & Accessories how much was the shipping on your lights?

I was going to order but didn't want to pay high shipping price on a small order I if its high I will order more at once.

If you keep it under $100 it can come USPS, and so it minimal ($5-7?) but my second order was a little over $100, and it came UPS Ground and shipping was $13, I think?

...a little "excentric" but one benefit of LED lamps seldom thought about is their vastly lower "heating" effects...they don't "burn" the bug-guts onto the lexan covers!

Update on the LED taillights and turn signals bulbs: I would like them better if they were a bit brighter -- they work, but in daylight, they are not overly bright.

Also, I just found out that the Illuminati Seven uses these LED headlights:

Truck-Lite - Catalog Product : 7'' Round 12v LED Headlamp

Check out the March 9, 2010 video called Headlights and Bumpers.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to come here and mention some LED products, but before I go any further I just want to mention that I work for Hamsar. I'm not here to spam, I just want to get some information out, so hopefully no one is offended by this post.

Hamsar currently has a 90mm projector style LED headlamp, and a 165mm rectangular headlamp. Both of these are made to directly replace old halogen and sealed beam lights. We'll soon have a 7" hi/low out as well, and are working on releasing a full range of course.

Our low beam draws .9amps at 12V and .45amps at 24V.

That's just a little bit of information about the lights obviously, you can find out more by going:

hamsar.com/images/New_Products/71076-detail.pdf
hamsar.com/images/New_Products/71075-detail.pdf (there's an error in the amp draw on this one, it's getting fixed)

If you have any questions please let me know. Hamsar builds LED lighting for aftermarket and OEM applications (you've probably seen our products on vehicles) so if you have any questions about our products, or LEDs in general let me know and I'll get some answers for you.

Of course I must mention, our website is hamsar.com and you can buy some of our products directly from us at hamsarstore.com .

Once again any questions, concerns, etc just let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

Thanks guys!

Dave.
