Yeah. This means it's in the console somewhere, right?

Ha!! I can hear where the clicking noise comes from in my car: it's a tiny speaker under the steering column, while the flasher relay itself is supposedly either in the depths of the dashboard or under the fuse box in the engine compartment.

Okay, I got the new flasher units, and the rest of the LED bulbs today. The flashers now work perfectly with the old incandescent bulbs and with the LEDs:
Of course, the tabs on the flasher on the xD had to be clipped off to fit it -- they changed the mounting slightly...they are the two bits sticking out the back in this picture. The circuit board is completely different; though the two relays are still there. The IC chip is under the "U1" circle with epoxy on it, and there are four diodes, and a resistor on the top side.

I could guess some trimming had to be done. I see they generalized the relays for "japanese".. I may try it. I have no ecu, at least 3 miles less wiring than today.. I simply may try it out.
Heads up on the 194 bulbs.. they are skinnier at the socket than regular 194. I already took my license plate light aprt to squeeze in some tin foil on one side of the socket.
..and I took a slow ride in some hills. 2k rpm, tall gear..no pings. My theory that there was a diode needed in the ignition feeidng coil was a good one. The LEDs act as a diode..power on or off. It is a mystery. I will continue swap as well, with relay included.

since 1 hp is 745 watts, does it take about 1 hp to make 745 watts of power? With that info in hand, you could see how many hp you're freeing by going to LEDs

You have to take into account alternator efficiency, which is something like 50%-80%. So for each electrical watt saved you reduce the engine load by up to 2 watts.
