not really , sorry, naca ducts are always intakes, they have to face forward ... sometimes they're used as hood scoop alternatives, as extractors they would just serve as any other hole.

i wich i could recall where i'd seen the picture of what i'm referring too... but it was basically a backwards facing scoop on top of the front fender. it was definately an extractor.

Mmmm, NACA ducts!

What would happen if someone designed wheels with NACA ducts between the spokes?

Would you want them facing in, out, or both?

From my POV, they look 100% functional. The mesh in the louver makes sense to me because it will keep rocks from jumping out and hitting the paint.

During wind tunnel development of the Pontiac Trans Am Firebird,similar slats were found to increase drag.If they were on the hood,close to where the air accelerates around the A-pillars they might cut drag,as Dr.Morrelli found with the Pininfarina CNR "banana-car" low-drag development vehicle.

The vents on the Jetta are likely fully functional but they'd be installed to vent hot air from the engine bay, most likely.

I still think they'll cause interference drag to an already "clean" flow field.The air is escaping at the wheel well,so the slats are kind of redundant and do not expell the air to an area of low pressure.

I'd say it would be a combination of brake cooling and downforce. They would design the wheels to suck air in from next to the car, cool the brakes and then vent it upwards to push down the front of the car. I don't think it would work on production cars with typically lower pressure in the wheel wells but you would have to autospeed style pressure test the wells to see if they were >atmospheric pressure and thus worth venting (backwards for FE, up for downforce).
