Yea, don't use a drill press! I very recently tried that. I can't seem to find the drill chuck for my lathe, so I decided to try making Magic Spark Plugs with the drill press. Neither drill bit hit the center target. The result was a botched plug. Emissions showed I was better off with the normal plug.

I don't know what to say, other than the only success I've had was using a lathe to keep the holes centered. If you're a better machinist than me, maybe you can do a much better job than I did.

You could use a drill press if you can dimple the electrode to provide a start point for the drill or sharpen the angle of the point (difficult on a .060 drill bit). Dimpling without breaking the electrode is going to be tough.

Would be the same effect by increasing gap, system voltage and indexing the plugs

I'd let go of the idea, but a Dremel-sized ball mill would give a cupped rather than cone shape.

Now I'm not sure why the 'torch' extends beyond the electrode.

Here are some progression pics. I put feeler gauges between the electrodes to keep from damaging the outer electrode strap so I could dimple a mark. If you're better at this stuff than me, you may be able to do a better job. My eyesight isn't what it used to be.

It only does that after igniting the first puff of fuel. As that fuel burns, it becomes the blow torch.

EDM

Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM).

It will make short work of this.

I'm not familiar with that term. Could you explain, perhaps provide a link?

Wow! I'm blown away! I've seen stuff apparently made with this process, but had no knowledge of the actual process itself. Thank you 2 folks for the quick and informative videos.

That would work for the outer electrode beautifully. Not sure how to create a satellite dish on the inner electrode, though.
