You'd want a five-speed and big motor. That's what the notchback had. Flat-towing in fourth at 55MPH.

A few hours ago I just saw a '71 Typ3 Variant shortened, seemingly both at the wheelbase and at the rear overhang. If I were drunk right now, most likely I'd say that would be perfect for a Suzuki Vitara body swap 
On a sidenote, before FM became mainstream, some cars of that era had radios with only AM and one or 2 SW bands. |

Yup somebody my dad knew had a blaupunkt radio like that in their English car with positive ground they wanted to transplant into a superbug. Took me forever to convert it, then found the strapping switch that did it

Reminds me when I had to switch the voltage of a radio from 110 to 220 V. Well, nowadays with so many home appliances having automatic bi-volt switching, I'd expect car radios and that "infotainment" $#!t to have a similar approach too.

Not many car acessories come in 110/220/ 300v options. Most of the tesla design went with what was available. Remember for a long while Tesla was bleeding cash.
I suppose stuff can be retrofitted by now but that would incur repair problems. Blank slate with no production imposed issues could design it then build it.

What I meant was to use regular household appliances, without the need for an inverter
When it comes to trucks, it's already quite usual in some countries to adapt residential split air conditioners instead of a more common automotive one with the engine-driven compressor.
