Ah ok. Sorry to hear. I know that can be a huge pain to get all the stuff back. And yeah that makes sense. All freeway will get u good mileage with these cars. Im mostly city so i get 25-26 mpg average per tank. When i drive like a hoot i get 20. Thats with tons of idle to heat the car or cool it down depending on the weather. But i managed 43.3 on a 30 min trip that consisted of mostly 35 to 40 mph.

I think I have it all nailed down as far as the wallet.

Next benchmark for me will be getting my UltraGauge calibrated and hopefully to start seeing 45mpg as I get used to the car, tweak my route, and start to buckle down on technique. Ultimately I'd like to see 50 but that'll be fairly more tough.

I have a Volkswagen Polo 1.4 TDI. I'm getting 52-45 MPG diesel depending on city/long distance driving etc. On flatlands I can get close to 60 with optimal conditions. The only mods I have is a slightly higher tyre pressure. I have a scangaugeII calibrated and installed.

I don't think it's a common car in the USA but I'm interested in MPG tips.

Nice! There's LOADS of tips on this site bud. I wish we would've gotten the 1.4L lupo diesels here... theres so much good cars u guys got that we yanks didnt.. Sucks...

Terve Latrom! Without any other mods 60MPG (3,9l/100km) is quite good. Which pressure do you use? I think 44PSI (3,0 bar) is the limit for the tyres used for small cars. Driving is not so comfortable but it saves a lot.
Did you ever try "pulse & glide"?
Try the 5th gear, speed up rather fast to 85km/h (53 MPH), release the clutch and let the car roll until the speed is 70km/h (43 MPH), then speed up again.
This style is not possible if you're not alone but on the next trip to Rovaniemi you will have chance to try.
Additionally I use EOC (engine off coasting), that means while rolling I switch off the engine but ignition must be on. That might be dangerous as driving curves and breaking is no longer supported. As long as there is no moose (hirvi) on the street ...

When I started this journey a couple of years in the past I had a family EPA of 23 mpg. It then progressed to forty seven MPG with the aid of ditching the guzzlers and getting a extra cost effective automobile for the wife and I modded the beater and my driving habits. I then proceeded to retire my car and now shuttle extensively on my motorbike in suburbia. The family EPA is now 55 MPG.

It is rated 5.6/4l or 4.4/3.2 depending on the year.
