more pics; early numbers

Here are some daylight pics. (That URL doesn't work yet -- once I've tested the tail, I'll probably split off the tail talk into a dedicated thread and point the URL to it.)

---

Early results... not ABA though...

The tail got its first highway run this weekend, and the round trip numbers were the best I've seen: in the high 3.x L/100km range / low 60's mpg US).

I don't have a lot of miles on the car for comparison, but the last time I did a round trip on the same road in similar conditions/speeds (PSL: 80 km/h / 50 mph), it was mid/high 50's mpg.

Don't trust my confirmation-bias-seeking brain though!

Up next:

-- The bottom of the car is a bit of a mess where the tail starts -- there's no smooth transition. I'll be doing that next.

-- Then I'd like to some stick yarn tufts on it and capture the airflow.

-- Then A-B-A.

At the rate I work, I'll be done by August!*

(* Note: did not state year.)

It looks very nice. I like the recessed lights, and the cutout for the brake light is nice too.

I like it in white, vs. black of my previous efforts. Reminds me of...

I think a clear cover would be OK under most conditions except where direct sunlight is reflecting off it.

I considered also covering the notch that leaves the car's outside rear light clusters visible with clear plastic but decided to leave them exposed. I don't want to give the law any reasons to ticket me if/when I get stopped. The tail draws A LOT of attention on the road.

Hi,

What is the tail length behind the rear bumper ? 1.5 meter ?
Do you have an idea concerning the weight ?

I think it adds ~44 inches / 112 cm to the car.

Weight is around 35 lbs / 16 kg, but I forget whether that includes the tail lights.

I'll double-check next time I have it off.

The better to see you with? Just as long as nobody rear-ends you while trying to take a picture!
