I guess CARB compliance, and a short supply of pre-'67 models exempted from EPA and CARB regulations to be modded, may be a reason for you not seeing much of there. Well, I don't see so many of those in my hometown either, and I'm not even in the United States...

This was a custom trailer we built in house for outdoor concert use. The entire Floor folded up and was framed by alum I beams on approx 24" centers, that were very exposed in transit on the highway. We knew there was going to be an aero drag penalty when towing, even though the entire center was wide open, it was considerable. Weighing a little over 5K, it towed like an anchor behind a diesel PU. Behind a box straight truck, it was acceptable. We toyed with paneling over all the I beams, but after 52 years when COVID hit, I retired.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. What year? What airport?
I'm not getting the fold-up floor part. What is the width of the upper deck? It's not just the sides folding up? Are there wheelwells, or what tires under that deck height?

Weeks Air Museum in Lakeland Fla, largest private collection of historic aircraft in US.
This Event pictured was a Dave Matthews concert for closing entertainment for a closed to the public convention gathering, 2009.
The trailer has four folding panels that fold up to 8'6" wide for transport.
There are no wheel wells, the tandem axles have 20"x 12" tires/wheels, as the lowest height is preferred for the application.
edit The trailers platform's footprint when in use unfolded was 20'x20'

Thanks.
20" rims with 12" wide tires; or 12" rims with 20" tall tires?
I assume the upper deck is 8' -- 8' 6" wide. Do you ever use the top half of those stanchions up there?

20" tires, with 7" electric drum brakes
The upper Systems scaffold you note in this pic was primarily an operator safety rail, and also if needed a structure usable for the addition of shade or rain protection, and additionally if need be for a third weight limited level to place area lighting and/or audio delay stacks on.

Sounds like the box straight truck generated some vacuum which would render it easier to pull such an unaerodynamic trailer, as if it was catching the vacuum of another vehicle.
