Thanks, tas. I don't know why I never saw that thread before...
I posted a few links, added more info and remarked straight off something like: "I've tried with and without grille block, my opponents haven't (or haven't admitted that they have), so their arguments about "it doesn't work" aren't worth much. If they want to follow my example of getting above the 'your word against mine' level of discussion, then please post some hard data, scientific papers, etc. about how grilleblocking doesn't work in our climate." If noone takes the challange, then I don't care what happens next.
Thanks everyone

My favourite discussion about ecomodding I've had with a stranger happened over the course of about 8 seconds at a red light in the summer.
I had just made my "good" wheel skirts, and was stopped at the light, windows down. A UPS driver pulled up beside me in the right turn lane. His sliding driver's side door was open.
He said across to me, "what are those covers over your rear wheels for?"
Me: "Better aerodynamics."
UPS: "You mean, to save gas?"
Me: "Yup!"
UPS: he smiles, says something like "neat!" or "cool!"
He might have asked me how much they saved ("couple of per cent"). I forget. And then he drove away. I like to imagine I could see the wheels turning in his head.

That story illustrates my philosophy about talking to non-ecomodders about efficiency: I generally don't, unless they want to.
I avoid getting into conversations with people who aren't already interested in the topic, at least a little bit. I find it's better to just put the information out there and the interested people will come to the subject matter on their own. The conversations that follow are much more productive!
Not trying to discourage you!
PS - if you really want to find out who's interested in the subject matter, put a boat tail on your car. Strangers will come out of the woodwork to talk to you about it!
Also, don't forget our growing project library. Not all the projects are backed up with hard numbers, but there are some good ones in there.

One of my favorite stories happen this Fall when I was tuning my car.
I had another local tuner ask what A/F ratio I'm running at to get 74mpg. I said around 25:1 He didn't believe me and said its impossible, so I had him ride along in my car and watch the A/F LMA-1 readout.
So after about a 20mile trip running at 25:1 to 28:1 A/F he said
"your LMA-1 needs calibration something must be wrong". I told him I just did a free air calibration that morning and it was reading right. He did'nt believe me and ask if we could install my wide-band into his car. I said no problem. So we then took his car for a test drive and it was reading 14.5 at cruising speed. He then said I'll take some fuel away and I'll show you that it will read 25:1 also. Well to make a long story short he couldn't get past 16:1 and the engine started searching and miss firing. LOL
He now won't shut up about how I need to market this and make him a partner.

Same for me.
Learned this one over many years of discussions on the topic ; sometimes the hard way !
Good luck with it all and your journey to find the swine appreciating the pearls you are casting.

This reminds me of a joke.
(NOTE: I have no prejustice against women or blondes, I am just stating the joke as I heard it!)
Two blondes are driving in a Porsche when it suddenly dies. They get out and start thinking what to do next. One opens the front and says "Hey, no wonder it won't drive: there is no engine under the hood". The other opens the rear and says "Oh, but there's a spare engine in the trunk".

Remember, just as much as they were trolling, you were biting.
I try to push this fact out there alot. If you're responding, you really have no reason to complain... (Not saying that you were complaining, but you get the point.)
I do it too. I respond to some of the most infantile BS posts you could read, except I do it for fun. I don't mind going completely OT for a few posts (as you've probably noticed) because eventually, trolls bait themselves. You find the bait, and you can run 'em out quicker than fire burns.

mcrews -
Christ is right. Gotta ignore the trolls and just respond to the people that "get it". The trolls need attention to survive. Think of the original Star Trek episode with the energy entity that needs the emotion of hate and fear to feed.
