They still exist. Both the traditional bakery where all they sell is fresh made baked items and retailers of day-old tasteless factory bread.

I also grew up on day-old bread. My mom would make a trip to the bread outlet store, buy a dozen loaves or so and put them in the chest freezer. It was cheap - that is the only good thing I can say about it.

Even though we were poor, my mom fit wheat bread into the budget. She didn't let me eat anything considered "empty calories". Never knew the joys of white bread as a kid. Good training though as my wife won't let anyone eat white bread.

I never had white bread at home, only whole wheat.

The exception was school or my aunts or if I had a hotdog/ hamburger bun
(My folks rarely used buns, everything went on a slice of whole wheat.

Lately, I've been buying potato bread. It's off-white.

When the economy is a wreck stuff never makes it to 90% mark down. Shortages and poverty mean stuff like every day items get bought up before they can be marked down to even 50% off.
In 2020 I bought a cart load of lawnmower oils, 1qt and 1gallon ethanol free gasoline, fertilizers all 50% to 80% off. Because the economy was going great until bat sniffles fear porn caused people to hide under their beds all spring and summer. See: https://ecomodder.com/forum/showthre...ert-38556.html
Then next spring after people didn't cut their grass for a year there was a mower shortage.

Good point... I keep hoping the recession will drive prices down, especially on toys, but that may never happen. It might require a great economy for people to want to part with their used toys and purchase new ones.

There was no joy in eating "Wonder Bread" There are some excellent white breads but that tasteless spongy stuff sold as bread in the USA isn't it.

As the Boomers continue to die their toys will get sold at a hefty discount. Tastes change.

Too busy watching Youtube videos.

Rockabilly is the purest form of rock and roll because it never evolved.

edit: Here's black and white rockabilly in Ukraine months before the Maidan Square Massacre from 2013:
