went from 18 to 26 mpg with nissan pickup

hey im Brent i have a 97 nissan pickup with 300,000 miles on it when i got it i was getting 18 mpg!
here is a list of mods i have done to get me to 26 mpg in town! that is a 44.4 Percent Increase
oh and by the way there cheap mods!

free mods Ive done

mug flap delete

i turned in my side mirrors

i taped up some vents for the ac system there on the top of the hood

i had a rubber matt in the back and i took it out it was huge every bit of 50 lbs it was 1/2 thick


tail gate delete


pay mods

i went from 225/75/14 tires to 205/75/14 tires
80 each but needed tires any way

i have a k&n air filter but it came with the truck but i had to buy cleaning kit 12 bucks

i shorted the intake on my truck and used 2inch pvc pipe and i drilled 4 holes in the intake
free i had the stuff laying around but if i had to pay for it it would be like 10 bucks


i cut off my razander can!!!
it cost 10 bucks for the turn down and 4 bucks for the cutt off wheel

FYI, the tailgate delete may be hurting your mileage.

I hope you adjust odometer reading when you calculate the MPG.
there's fairly large difference in circumferences between two sizes. about 4.5%

If you didn't you still got about 25mpg. Since your tires are about 4.3% off, next time you fill up multiply your mileage by .957 like this; because your new tires are 95.7% the diameter as your old set.

260miles/10gallons=26mpg. - wrong
260miles*.957=252.2. 252.2/10gallons=25.2mpg

Although, if the old tires on the truck aren't the original size, find the original size and google search a tire size calculator to find out the percentage they're off. I have to do the same thing with my ford ranger except backwards cuz I put taller tires on to bring the rpm's lower while cruising.

nice chart but the mythbusters test say i will get better mpg with out my tail gate

Before you buy a new electric fan look at junkyards. Most FWD cars have them, and that is what most cars have been for the last 30 years. You should be able to get one close in size for $20.

with an OBD 2 scan tool
on a flat stretch at constant speed , say 70mph look at
the calculated load PID value
write the value down
then
reinstall the tailgate
repeat the test , same conditions , same speed , same direction

thats the only way to know for sure i dont have a scan tool
