just fitted a 17t to mine and according the the maths i should be able to cruise at 60 at just over 4k rather than 4.8k stock so i will see what that does to my mpg.

Still haven't gotten the 185 running again, yet. I'm sure it will run, but I haven't tried, since the exhaust isn't done, and there's no tank or battery on it right now.
I've only been working on slimming it down, and figuring out a bag/trunk configuration, and getting a 1 up seat pan, and making proper tabs to mount the tank and seat so they're not "holding each other together" because I have to move the seat back a bit to make it comfortable for me.

I recon Honda Cubs and Innovas get the best consumption. My experience on a C70 being anal about mpg recording was an average of 150mpg for every day commuting and shopping. My Innover got a little less. For those people who want car comfort. My 850cc Reliant Rialto II three wheeler averaged 70mpg over 2000miles of commuting and running down to the shops. I was trying to get the maximum mpg out of it. Normal driving had me achieving a consistent 60mpg doing 70mph max on the motorways and included everyday urban driving. Thrashing the bollox off it with no regard to speed limits or my own safely showed a figure of 45mpg. Not bad for a car that does a tad short of 100 mph!

I borrowed my friend's 82 honda 450 nighthawk for a ride, and averaged about 45mph for a couple hours, most of the time in top gear and got 67 mpg. this bike has an overdrive 6th gear which is nice for fe, though i think the aerodynamics keep you in this range unless you drive slower than 40.

Most I've gotten on my 96 Virago 1100 is about 56 and that was with a lot of coasting. It's a V-Twin. I'd love some suggestions for better fuel mileage.

Remove a spark plug and block a carburetor.... LOL.
Joking, please don't do that.

I got a great aunt in TN... she makes excellent sweet potato pie. If you can get to her where you're stranded, she'll likely get you some help. :P
Do you coast w/ the engine off or on? Have you checked to make sure your carbs are properly synched, and you're running a bit lean on your cruise circuits? Do you have a trunk and bags? Aero modding is a great place to work on bikes... Specifically the rear, try to taper the airflow back into a closed section, with a short fish tail.

I have a windshield and saddlebags. I suppose I could take the bags off but not the windshield. I coast with the motor on because it sometimes takes a couple of seconds to get it cranked again.
