.

Maybe a wood chunker would fill your needs better than a wood chipper.

They’re fairly easy to make and you already have the tools and knowledge to build one.

More examples here.

Just a suggestion...

Sterling might be cool but I won't hold my breath for any external-combustion engine to become viable again for automobile usage.
For a conventional drive-line they are quite terrible, but maybe as a range extender it doesn't matter that you have to plan ahead to start and stop the engine.

It looks like the wood chunk is turning perfectly sized fire wood in to wood chunks.
Any 2 inches and up is fire wood. Anything down to 1 inch can be fire wood depending on how much twigs are on there.
I'm trying to turn twigs and even leaves that would normally go into a brush pile then be open air burned and turn it into much more compact, easier to move, easier to store, dry out s lot faster and can quickly be loaded into the coal furnace, compared to raw green twigs.

Indeed, they seem to be better for a fixed-speed operation.

I'm going big on wood chips.
I have lots of nuance trees to get rid of, have a lot of dead trees to get rid of too, have to thin out the trees before they kill each other. Better to have 1 strong tree rather than 3 or 4 dead ones.
I'm putting in a pond to water my fuel trees. I have a road that makes a nice water shead that makes the edge of the road swampy when it rains, I want to drain that water away from the road which causes the road to crumble.
I have only put a dent in the tree problem and I already have a nice hill of wood chips.

I'm going to buy a crucible that can fit in my coal furnace so I can cast and make brass. Nice yellow brass is 70% copper and 30% zinc and zinc is almost worthless.

I'm going to experiment with putting my used motor oil on the wood chips and seeing how horrible that is.

How about the crucible? I knew a VW mechanic who dismantled engines and threw the various metals into drums to sell to the recyclers. He saved out the bronze valve guides and melted them down.

I have only burned trash so far in the coal furnace this winter.

Well, it's been said that used motor oil should not come into contact with the skin because it has carcinogenic elements in it.

I doubt one's lungs could handle the oil any better.
