In that case, I have something that's far lighter and can get you 100 miles on a charge: a AAA card. ;-)

As a just in case for the once or twice a year you might run out of juice accidentally, AAA will cover that. With the plus package, you get 100 miles free towing, which should be plenty. IIRC, standard package is 3 miles free towing, so not a huge help.

I'm a huge fan of cars with matching big black plastic bumpers myself, you can push other cars all day with one of those and not have to give a crap.

Of course, any EV owner paying attention to the battery levels would nearly never be in this predicament. Especially on a well traveled route.

Something must be said about how nice it'd be to have a tiny ICE engine under the hood to assist for those times when the battery goes out.

Do you have this kind of thing happen with your gasoline car? hit a few hills and have to call someone up to bring you a gallon of gasoline?
when driving my electric car I pay attention to the battery gauge just like I pay attention to my gas gauge in my gas car and I'll admit that I do know people who have run out of gas, mostly because when your gas tank is empty it's really empty! batteries don't have an exact bottom so you can crawl home, but the battery meters can give you an extremely accurate reading of how much energy you have left.

ive never ran out of gas before but ill expound



there will be a lot of trial and errors with a first electric car

and naturally you will be watching the gauges like a hawk

but there are factors when it comes to EV range

(speed and elevation are the 2 im referring to)

it basically boil down to a moped experience i had

(the guy took the speed limiter off and it could go 60+)

i floored it up the hill and could barely hit 30

(and thus holding up traffic)



my hill is like this, but a mile or so
1 lane up, 1 lane down
with driveways on both sides, so you might have to stop
some people drive 25, some drive 40

or with a moped, or a bicycle, you might just want to walk it the two blocks up the hill
