when you train the wife in on the use of the scan gauge and your just cant watch as shes tooling around watching the gauge but not up shifting and driving at 15mph at 3k on the tach, you blurt out "upshift to get better MPG's, keep the rpm's low", she replies , OK, settle down.

Above True story , trained the wife on the scan gauge yesterday , shes driving the truck as the veggie benz needs a new filter and I didn't have time to do it, well see what her trip average is tonight... doubt shell beat my 35.6.. but if she does GREAT! Maybe well get some competition going on the scan gauge...

You know you are an ecomodder if...

I was at a stoplight and I glanced with envy at the guy next to me in a Geo Metro.

I coasted from the middle of the Kennedy Bridge, to the exit, turned right, turned right again and into a Hardee's drive thru. Technically I coasted from KY to IN to a Hardee's Drive Thru.

I am studying the lines of the roads on my commute like Jeff Gordon on a road course...

... you get in your EV to move it, and you think, happily, "ahh... no cold start fuel economy penalty!"

...you pass gas-sucking SUVs... with your engine off!

...you rarely listen to the radio - to reduce alternator drag, but also because your antenna is retracted/removed! (88-91 civic antennas are manually retractable!)

...you have to turn your engine back on to slow down.

...you see another car identical to yours fly by on the highway and thing "HA! I'm getting twice your gae mileage!"

...you hate having passengers cause it kills your city mileage

...you see a car in a parking lot with TERRIBLE front end aero and want to go grab some coroplast

...you wish all stop signs were yields so you could time them right and not have to stop

after you get a scan gauge, and train the wife on how to use it and how to hypermile, and then she is actually starts threatening your best average MPG in that vehicle..

She can pull down 30mpg average now, I can pull down 35 average.. shes catching me.. and shes only been hypermiling 3 days.. OH NO!

...when you've surfed around ecomodder.com enough to figure out how to put the fuel log readout as your signature. Thanks, Daox!

...when you find your wife sitting in her Jeep in a parking lot talking on the cell phone with the engine running just to have the air conditioning on and wonder how long she's been doing that and how much gas she burned.
