not necessarily, I am not a transmission expert. I had a Chevy truck with a TH400 trans that leaked, bad, when it got low it would shut off at stop signs after driving normally for miles, and then start up and continue driving normally for miles.

It may have to do with the fluid sloshing forward during braking, and the pump cavitating.

I doubt it's the transmission fluid as it's fine during braking. When I have to stop fully I coast down as far as I can then brake slowly down to about 5 mph leaving about 1 car length or slightly more between me and the car in front/line on the road and let the car crawl/coast to a stop so if the fluid sloshed forward it would stall before I even came to a stop. Also braking hard doesn't have an effect on if the problem occurs or not at this point it's only occurring randomly. It's also not immediately when the car stops that the engine dies it's usually after ~5 seconds that it dies.

I swapped out the air filters the one that was in there didn't look bad nothing was really clogging it it was just a bit dusty I also vacuumed out the filter box as there was some crap in there I'm going to try to grab some TB cleaner later and see if that makes a difference.

I've had two fills on this trip. The first one before leaving just so I started with a full tank was about 26 mpg which isn't terrible for all city driving that was a half tank.

The second also a half tank (I'm traveling with a convoy that includes a 90s era suburban) was much better 33.7 mpg all highway around 60-70 mph speeds.

Should have one more so we'll see what that gets.

Next fill up got a bit over 30 mpg. It was half highway and half on the mountain back roads. Which were awesome by the way.
