Hmmm and if the tax applied to used tires you would see a lot more dangerous tire waste in oceans and if it didn’t the cost of used would skyrocket naturally
Given 80% of IL road funding isn’t from designated road funding sources maybe that is the best funding method and we leave all the funding schemes alone?

Used tires were already taxed- and most places I've seen selling used tires probably aren't the strictest when it comes to keeping books anyway.
Gas can't be ignored, its use needs to be discouraged so it still needs to be taxed more. But hybrids and EVs use tires just like other vehicles, and in the right proportion to their damage to the roadways: their weight and miles driven affect their tires the same way SUVs' weight and miles driven affect their tires. Use and abuse the roads more, pay more. Don't like it? Drive something smaller that doesn't hurt the roads as much.

The only time tires are inadequate is when they cause an accident, or otherwise impede the flow of traffic.
No need to tax used tires since the extra expense in new would be reflected in used prices.
I wear most of my tires down to bald. Bald tires are fine for summer when we have no rain.

I'm almost bald and I work fine in the rain.

We've gone 3 months with no rain in the summer. In the winter, it rains 3/4 of the days.
I like summer rain because that usually means thunder and lightning.
