185/80r15

Well I have to bite the bullet and get new tires. My worn out but super low CRR 205/70R15 tires are just not going cut it this winter. I have a choice:

1 205/70R15 from tire rack, $59 each or

2) 185/80R15 from E-bay at $ 71 each

Stock size is 175/70R14 or 185/65R15 for the saturn.

I like the idea of a narrower tread. The 70s handle better, though
The 80 series 185 is .3 inch larger diameter. Both require spacers to get the scrub radius back down.

The 165/80R15s are great it he rain an slush, but don't corner well and are hard to seat.

The Federal 185/80R15 are only 35 psi, the 205/70r15 are 44 psi rated.

Durun D108 185R15C D/8PR is a light van tire rated for 65 psi

I'm already 8 mph over at 65. Yokohama touring is a good tire.

These look interesting:

Well the new 65 psi 185/8015C van tires would have bee really cool, but being the cheapskate that I am, I bought some half worn out General Ameri-G4S M/S 205/70R15 tires down the road on Criagslist for $75. Mounting, balancing and disposal of 8 tires was $60 at Walmart. I replaced the front rotors that were warped also. I probably saved $200, or about 60 gallons of gas. Im getting 44 mpg this winter so thats 2600 miles. If the 185 tires got 2% better mileage, 1 mpg, then it would take 130,000 miles to pay for them. The car rides smooth now no shaking at speed and no shaking when the brakes are applied. The tires are getting better traction in the snow, I reduced the pressure 5 psi to 44 front, 40 rear. There was about 20 lbs of ice and slush packed up in the wheel wells.

My father was a fan of used tires. Me, new all the way baby. I may loose a good 5-7 mpg because of my tire choice, but its velcroed to the ground.

Tires are doing OK, better then the old ones in the snow. Not the best, but better than some cars out there. Skinnier tires would be better in the slush and snow on the highway.

bust any drifts with that thing?

from the looks of the front end and the underside of your car...
i'm just imagining that thing riding over drifts, like a surfboard rides over a wave
