1983 Nissan NX-21 (nice pics and description)
1983 Nissan NX-21 - Concepts
" The NX-21 was to sport a more aerodynamic design complete with the now trademark slotted exa rear lights, gullwing doors, a modern interior with all the fancy electronics the 80’s had to offer (including no rear vision mirror but a projector screen instead, a voice warning system, a smarter engine management system called ECCS), coupled with a powerful new ceramic gas turbine engine driving the RR (Rear engine/Rear drive) layout. The fuel efficiency was better than most modern diesels at the time, and could take various forms of fuel (including kerosine, light oil and alcohol). The power output was rated at 100PS. "

Ceramic gas turbine? That seems interesting.

"Various forms of fuel" also sounds interesting... "doc needs fuel":

Gas turbines can even run on some alcoholic beverages which have an ethanol volume lower than the 80% required for piston engines to operate on ethanol.

So that's why they poured beer into the flux capacitor! Ethanol!

Too timid. With the Suby SVX-style side windows they could have rounded the A-pillar more; and with the rear-view projection screen they could have ditched the external rear view mirrors.

Would be interesting to see a ceramic gas turbine in aeronautic applications.

AH! I couldn't remember the name, but knew this was an old Japanese concept car.

The SVX didn't come out for eight more years. The contemporary XT actually had pretty similar sized A-pillars as this concept, though. Without widening the pillar it's hard to get it any rounder. And then you'd have to redo the front fender and greenhouse...
I think they were doing just fine for 1983, when everyone was just figuring out how to round out their cars again. Its front end found its way onto the '83 S12 Silvia and the '86 N13 EXA (Pulsar NX).
As for the camera... maybe. The '83 Buick Questor concept had a crude navigation setup, displaying on a tiny black and green CRT monitor. I don't know if digital cameras were up to the task back then!

Inspired by Bertone wedges & Aston Martin concepts
1979-80 Aston Martin Bulldog - severe wedge + gullwings
