The Golf I & II diesels will benefit a lot from a bigger diameter exhaust system.

I was going to say the same thing. Super easy to replace though (if you can find some non-busted ones at the wrecker, that is).
Or add poppers...

Needs a little TLC and some restoration/rust repair, but I'm gonna fix it up and mod it a little, including shaved door handles (those things are horrible looking) as well as other tasteful mods.

Beat you to it! :P
I just hope the dude I got it from actually sends me the title, so I don't have to screw around to get one for it.
Although, I do have his address...

NO! Topher man.... you've got to get that title. He could technically say you stole the car, get it back from you and keep your money. I'd be very cautious if I were you.

He could, but then I could do the same, since I traded another car for it, and paid for him to bring it down to me.
I still hold the title to the other car. I'm still holding trump, here. I'm good like that.

Updates:
I did end up getting the title from the guy. He was having phone troubles, and couldn't get ahold of me for awhile. The car is now legitimately mine.
I removed a bunch of extraneous wiring and some Wal-Mart driving lights from the car so far, and cleaned up a better spot in the barn for it.
After removing the starter, and inspecting it, I found that it needs to be rebuilt. The bushing just behind the starter gear is bad, and the solenoid causes the armature to shift around 5mm to one side, which causes the starter to disengage from the flywheel. It also spins VERY hard. A 50A boost charger almost overloaded getting it to spin. This would explain my difficulty in jump starting the buzzard.
I managed to get an injection pump from a TDI of the same generation, in case I ever decide to boost it. I also snagged some good looking brake pads from the salvage vehicle.
I'm looking into swapping for better front and rear brakes, hopefully discs in the back, if i can find something from a newer gen with rear discs that will basically be a bolt-in with only mild part swapping (rubber lines, etc.).
The car has 3/4 tank of fuel in it, which is a good thing. I'd hate to put a bunch of fuel in it just to find out something's catastrophically wrong with it, eh?
BTW - it's got just over 250k on it. Not bad for a diesel.

Christopher,
Your OP has no pictures?
You should lubricate the clutch cable (with some motor oil?) -- a smooth action on the clutch helps you drive smoothly. I had an '87 Golf, and after disconnecting the cable from the engine/transmission and pour some oil down into it; working the clutch to get it to flow down into the cable. After this, it should work muuuuuch better...

1.6td?? or straight diesel.
both are sweet little engines! and my polo shares the same suspension! plenty of tuning parts available over here and there is a good exchange rate in your favour too!
