Your right foot can be all the control you need it to be on the right stretch of road...

Agreed. Esp if you also have a throttle position readout to provide some redundant data backing up "foot position."

I like the strategy for mounting the air dam. Pretty clever. I will say though that your airdam is going to scrape at the height you set it. Mine was originally about as low as yours and it scraped, and I also drive a 1998 Civic DX. Eventually I shortened it because it became a pain over time. You'll know... keep an eye on it.

BTW, the VX and HX vtec-e enginss are great but you can hypermile these DXs really well and with some mods, including a VX trnasmission swap, you can give the VX a run for its money. Some hypermiling techniques make lean burn on the VX and HX moot. For example, pulse and glide and EOC are some of the absolute best MPG techniques and each of them complicates or inhibits the vehicle getting into lean burn.

And, you don't need the more expensive O2 sensors VX and HX cars all eventually require.

The DX is a great base for modding and hyprmiling.

What's next for your car?

Enjoy.

Thanks for the tips, California.

You are correct, my air dam will scrape the ground 5 or 6 times on a trip. I know right where these spots in the road are, I'll just have to slow down.

My next step is to just learn how to drive the car with the best hypermiling techniques. I'm in aw by how far I can coast on a decent grade and still keep a decent speed. It's rather fun to watch the ultra gauge read over 200 mpg while doing this. My gauge is reading over 45mpg right now with 130 or so miles driven since my last fill up.

Did you say whether yours has the AT or the MT? I thought it was MT. If it is MT look up a car on this site (now retired) called the "PaleCivic." It is a 1996 Civic DX ... the owner of the car (still active here) did almost no mods but if you look at the fuel log for it you'll see he routinely pulled 70s and even 90s n MPG in it. He had almost ideal conditions, but it still proves what devoted hypermiling alone can do. He drives a Fit now and gets 60s MPG out of it (it's heavier and has shorter gearing).

Tank no.2 is in the books. 445.5 miles with 9.495 gallons. Ironic that I put in the same amount of gas as the first fill up. I calibrated the Ultra Gauge after the first tank, and wouldn't you know it, the Gauge read 46.9mpg average for this tank, dead on, bro!

I was averaging around 46.0 to 46.2 for most of this tank. Today I picked up some surveying stakes for my business, I would say around 300lbs worth. After driving over 60 miles with this load, I shot up to 46.9mpg. I'm telling you, more weight in my car = better mpg's.
