Extend the Bonneville spoiler across the tops of the tail lights. Have the sail panel follow that line from the top rear door corner down to the top of that crease that runs above the door handle.

This will ensure the smoothest contour from the side to the trailing edge of the sail panel.
The sail panel was intended to end as the endplate for my spoiler, and it’s placement could also have it serve as the pedestals for a big wing should I decide to run one of those

All IMHO, of course. A smooth surface from the skirt to the Faschenfeld edge would be good.
It would be ideal but I’d have to reimagine the skirt again and it may not clear my wheel/tire package. It’ll need work anyway to clear my 16” wheel and 225 tire package I plan to run for events but I’ll worry about that then.

My Metro has the same problem*, the rear body undershoots the back edge of the tire. I posted something earlier about bubble skirts. The guy who invented them in the 1950s cut compound curves out of car bodies in a wrecking yard. Maybe you could just drag two fenders home and cut the tops off and turn them sideways.

* I have materials for ones the size you have now -- a Dish antenna to cut in half. I just have to figure out what to do with the 3/4" flange all around it. Maybe bend a rod to lay in the valley and then hammer it over....

The billion dollar question is whether or not a bubble skirt would offer better drag reduction than a flat one.

So I decided to test out the sail panels. Made some pieces from coroplast and attached them but it turned out that the panels created additional drag (not sure why) so I pulled them off

How hard would be to pull that trailer with this car?

Given the cars gearing I’d say pulling much of anything would be impossible

I pulled a trailer half the weight of my Insight, with the electric assist disabled. The stock engine had 66hp at the crank!

I'm sure the trailer I was refering to is not as proportionately lightweight compared to 19bonestock88's ride. But anyway, considering how many cars heavier than it featured engines with a lower output in countries such as mine, I guess the Insight didn't seem totally underpowered.

Let me rephrase, it wouldn’t be very comfortable with the tall gearing and relative lack of low end torque

Neither would I try it actually. My question was just as a matter of curiosity.
