2006 F-250 4wd Auto Diesel ... Ecomodded ?

I figured that would get your attention ... LOL

Anywho, my brother owns the truck thats listed in the title, and the other night I went over his house and as soon as him and his friends saw my Vibe, Well .... the flaming began. So in order to defend my self amongst all the Cuban Hillbillies, I posed a hefty challenge with an expensive dinner attached to it.

I told my brother and friends that using nothing more than his truck (stock), that I could beat the pants off all of their F Series trucks in FE. Well the bet was on and they got on the phone to call one of their fathers who has a 2wd F-250 diesel and claims to get 19mpg with the chip he installed.

He showed up and after laughing at my Vibe showed me his FE meter which said he was averaging 18.7mpg, not to shabby of a diesel 2wd. Well it was my turn to put money where mouth was and to insure I wouldn't cheat I brought my brother along as a witness.

I took his monster truck out for a spin in the city. Mind you it was 9pm by this time so traffic was light. And I did the following;

15 mile course .. LOL
-Left front windows down
-Neutral coasted to lights
-Shut engine off at complete stop (people thought the truck was breaking down because of the noise it didn't make when approaching .. LOL)
-Never accelerated above 1800rpm
-Set cruise control @ 37mph, which was the lowest rpm in the highest gear for that beast.

Final numbers at the end of the run ....

23.2 MPG !!!!!

Boy am i going to enjoy my dinner @ Shula's Steakhouse. Seriously though I was impressed by the numbers as well considering what this is ... From all this, my brother is changing his ways and reports his meter is reading numbers above 11mpg for the first time since he's owned the truck ....

Educating geniuses one tank at a time ...

Sounds like what I do:
Neutral coasting as much as possible
Keep it under 2000 all costs, rarely over 1700
With my gearing 1000 RPM in topgear equals 40 MPH
I don't shut off at lights

Good MPG and Shula's is a good place to enjoy victory.

Tell him to get a pyrometer install with the probe before the turbo and learn to drive with EGT never over 600 degree F (hard at first but it can be done). That gets him repeatable acceleration.

You CAN get good MPG out of these big trucks.

His truck was very roomy, wasn't it?

I really like reading about good mpg's from trucks.

Leading by example, what this forum seems to be great at!

Holy Crap !!! So roomy its intimidating. I am no stranger to driving large vehicle set ups, but that has more interior space than a semi. I'm not tall and it makes me feel like a 12 year old driving dad's truck .. LOL

ino, i drive a late 90's truck and am getting better mileage, my last tank, my first one with moderate eoc and p/g and got 32 mpg , before i did that i managed to get 25-26 with slow starts and stuff, 21 before and i didn't accelerate very fast and my 32 mpg is better than many people get with their corollas or other compact.

I can't convert my brother though he is a huge speed racer, gets out onto the road and slams on the gas because it is "safer for his car and himself" and gets up to 55 mph just to slam on the brake immediately at the stop sign (i only get up to 25-30 mph) gets up to 75 mph while still on the onramp to the highway (i only go 50-55 on the highway ) , i am thinking about getting a sg and hiding it in his car to see what he gets, i guarantee you he doesn't get 32 mpg.

Crap I forgot you were on this board and would make the obscure reference to our egotistical bet. Kudos to you ....

Shula's my friend is a high end Steak house here in S. FLorida owned by Don Shula, the ex coach of the Miami Dolphins.

As ROFL Box will quickly remind me, dinner for four will run ya over $250
