I made that mistake last year. I set up some really cheap drag bars out of 3/4" galvanized pipe, but they limited the steering, and if I tried to turn too hard to the left my horn sounded. I was still able to ride though. This time I made a bracket to rotate the bar clamps 90 deg so they stick off the front of the triple tree. This allows for full lock steering. You might try this with your supermoto. It would also lower the bars a little, and is very simple to make. just a piece of 2 inch angle, cut to fit and bolted to the tree.

Hmmm. Not visualizing the rotation part. Got a picture of the install? I couldn't make it out very well on your previous picture posts.

ok, better pics of the handlebar bracket. the third one shows full steering lock. by rotated, I mean that the bar clamps stick out the front of the tree rather than up off the top.

I've been thinking more about cooling, even though it seems weird to be thinking about cooling when it's snowing out, and I decided to make the entire cooling duct out of aluminum, and connect it to the fins on the head. that should act like an extension of the fins, and increase the cooling proportionately. I used self tapping screws to attach two pieces of aluminum angle to each side of the engine so that they stick out a half inch beyond the existing fins. I can then attach a piece of sheet aluminum to these brackets to make a tunnel for the cooling air. pic 4 shows the brackets on one side.

Dude, can i ask...what do you weigh?

big difference between 140 and 240 on a 185cc bike...
Do you think you can do the highway leg at 70 mph?

just wondering...

Weight is less of an issue than aero. I weigh 160 lbs, and it could do 70...ish stock if I layed down on the tank. last year with a very crude fairing I could do 70 fairly easy. I don't think it'l be a problem with a more developed fairing. in order to get 100mpg I need to make 70 seem more like 50 anyway.

Update, cargo storage area of the tail done. I also got the second nosepiece laminated, I just need to release it from the mold, and trim it. Then I can set up the nose. at least in mock up form. I looked for coroplast, and didn't find any, i also didn't find any good aluminum for a low enough price, so I think it might have to be Fiberglass for the curved portions anyway. at least with this solar resin, less sanding is required. maybe I can find something for a cheap backing material. any ideas?

I think I am going to end up using this Amerimax painted trim aluminum coil in .018" thickness.
.
Amerimax Home Products, Inc.
.
Available at HomeDepot for $75 for 24" by 50' roll. It seems very rugged as I couldn't easily dog ear the corner with my finger.

That is pretty big. If you put any sizable amount of weight that far back behind the rear wheel, the front of the bike will get too light with the additional lift at speed.

Aluminum trim coil is pretty sturdy, but it will ding up really easily. I was in residential construction for 7 years, and it tends to get lots of dings unless there is something solid behind it. We used it to wrap wood trim, since it ages slower and is more waterproof. might be good with something to reinforce it, maybe a single layer of fiberglass?
