With about 1.5 years worth on practice in getting my mpg numbers up my last tank came in at 54.641 mpg. I think this may have been my best ever tank in any car since I bought my first one 43 years ago. I remember breaking 54 mpg a couple times in the '88 Escort I used to drive but, I don't remember how much over 54. I was really hoping to break 55 mpg but, it didn't happen and since the temps are starting to cool down and winter blend gas will soon be the brew of the day again it looks like I'll have to wait till next summer for my 55 mpg tank. If I hadn't had more trips than normal on a couple bad sections for mileage on this tank I think I could easily have hit 55 mpg. This was my best tank to date and most of it was driven at about 40 mph. I saw early in the tank that I had a good chance at 55 mpg so I did my part to try to make it happen. Each of my last 7 fills have been 50+ mpg. Seeing numbers drop back possibly into the mid 40's this winter is going to be a hard pill to swallow. Since the end of Feb. 2020 when my lifetime average had got down to 47.005 I've driven the Versa about 3500 miles and have my lifetime average up to 48.218 mpg. Last fall when my average started dropping for the winter my lifetime average was 47.443 mpg. Hopefully I can get through this winter without the average dropping below 47.75, at least that's my goal at this point. Last winter wasn't very cold here so, if we see lots of really cold temps this year it may hit the average harder than I'm expecting. Of course at the same time the more miles I log the slower the average will come down even on not such great tanks. My lifetime average vs. epa estimates has saved 117.406 gallons and is like getting 3991.8 miles or 29.486% of my driving free in just 13537.8 miles. This has also saved $248.89. I can see I'm going to be very happy with the Versa if I can just keep the cvt happy for years to come.
