2017 Chevy Cruze Diesel Manual Highway MPG/0-60 MPH Road Test
Been looking forward to testing this beast for a long time and it did not disappoint. MPG #s are off the charts and it's a hoot to drive.

Wondering how we could lower coefficient of drag to further improve the highway #s. It would be fun to pitch the idea to Chevy …

Just hope it don't have the M32 gearbox like the gasoline models...diesel torque will make the bearings turn to oily muck in no time...

Wow I missed this one, glad somebody brought it back for the dead. The only problem around here is the cost of diesel is 20% more although it had been up to 30% more a few months ago. It's getting better, seems like about 50 cents more per gallon is going to be the norm, so it makes sense when gas hits $4.00/gal and diesel is $4.50, but isn't a good buy when gas is $2.20/gal and diesel is $2.70/gal.
I too was thinking this was a 70mpg potential car just keeping it under 60 mph for 6 hours steady on the highway. Even at 60 mpg, just one gallon per hour is pretty cool.

This is on the short list of my dream cars:
1. Cruze diesel manual
2. G1 Insight in good condition
3. Model 3

The Insight was on my list. If you can find one they generally aren't too expensive and they're a gem to own. I debated on getting one for a while, but since I did I'm loving it and haven't looked back.

I considered the diesel when I bought my 2015 Mazda3 but could not justify the higher vehicle cost plus the complications of all the environmental equipment needed on a modern diesel
As noted above, the lower price of RUG pretty much negates the mileage advantage of the diesel compared with available high-efficiency gasoline models.

I missed this too.
That said, someone recently posted that cargo ships are soon going to be required to not burn bunker fuel. That means demand for diesel will skyrocket, and if it does, so too will the price.
I'm a big fan of diesels, but I wouldn't buy one these days. They get about 20% more MPG, but the cost is at least that much more compared with gasoline.

The G1 is good for a commuter but it would be nice to also fit 3-4 and maybe a dog. I think it will be easier to find a nice used Cruze as well. I still live close to work and we seem to need even more room travelling so I'm not looking yet. But in a few years we plan on moving 30 miles out for my last 4-6 years working, then any of these cars (or especially an electric) would about pay for themselves in gas.

Yes I am, but I'd not change offices or routes just give up our valuable city house for more room in the country to retire on. I lived in the bay area north of San Fran before coming here with a long commute to Alameda everyday. I swore I wouldn't have more than a 10 min drive to work after that. Now 25 years later maybe I've forgotten LOL!
