One of the best quotes from this article

"Tesla already has a reputation for using rather high correction factors to publicize better range that its EVs usually offer – and the Cybertruck appears to be Tesla’s most optimistic formula to date. Tesla’s factors are estimated to be 0.82 for the AWD truck to reach a 340-mile range and 0.79 for the Beast to get a range of 320 miles.

If Tesla used the industry norm of .7 that other manufacturers adhere to, the Cybertruck range would be about 290 miles for AWD and the Beast would get 283.5."
Aren't 'ALL' published EPA mpg values directly ascertained by the five different Mobile Sources dynamometer cycle certification protocols, and manufacturers have nothing to say with what is recorded, computed, and reported?

A manufacturer can ‘sandbag’ with less efficient numbers.

It sounds like the manufacturer gets to pick their own correction factor. Everybody picks .7 while Tesla is picking .8 or more. Lots of real world results puts Tesla as the EV make least likely to meet their range claims. Probably due to their correction factor optimism. I don't see this changing on Teslas part, but I can see the others starting to use Tesla’s correction factor so that customers get apples to apples EPA ratings. The EPA should just mandate one number for everyone.

I was wrong about the manufacturer just picking a correction factor out of the blue. Tesla just runs all 5 test cycles, where most everyone else is running 2 and using the assigned correction factor. We'll in that case I think Tesla is fine, but I wish everyone else would run the 5 cycles so we can have apples to apples. There are other things allowed that can sort of cheat, and sometimes makers do get caught trying to put together a ringer car for the test. Hyundai for one. And of course VW had a whole program in the computer that triggered a special program when running the test.

But by doing what Tesla does they are more likely to piss off customers because the real world is nothing like the laboratory. Maybe Phoenix and San Diego customers are happy and everyone else is disappointed.

VW got caught delivering a better car to the consumer than the government was lead to believe.

The number of colors that you can get is bronze, gold, red, purple, green. These color correspond to a superficial film ranging from 0.02-μm to 0.36-μm thickness. Ferritic steels, on the contrary, only acquire a dark gray color. Since there is no pigment, the color is not degraded by UV rays and does not require...

More on how it's done:

How Tesla Builds A New Cybertruck!

No visible fasteners in the skin. I think it's done with adhesives.

The windshield is biggest ever, and structural. Doors are a stainless steel/aluminum sandwich.

Outer edge of the wheelcovers is soft rubber. Only way to make oversize wheelcovers work. Otherwise they grind pockets to the tire. I did that mistake around 2009

The high strength steel door inner is red hot when it goes into the press!

I used to watch the daily drone fights over the Gigafactory, from brown field to full operation. It's gratifying to get a walking tour of the interior of that building.
