34 mpg avg for 70mi round trip to school in Tacoma

I have no doubts this frikin' scanguage is going to pay for itself. This thing is so much fun! I got it calibrated last week and have been playing w/ driving by load since I got it... My previous best for a tank of gas was just over 30mpg, but I'm going to smash that easy w/ the guage.

My commute is between Folsom and Elk Grove in CA. There's more downhill getting there, and traffic's a little heavier (I think this makes a breeze in the direction of travel) and I got 37.5 mpg going there, driving between 50 and 55, coasting downhills, and taking my right shoe off for better pedal feel. Coming back is harder w/ more uphill, headlights on, and I Averaged 31.3 mpg.

I'm finding that all my gains, getting the avg mpg to climb happen on the back sides of hills when I get to coast the truck for a min. Very interesting. I can see how the pulse and glide would be effective.

Do you guys that power off the motor when you cost use the clutch to start it back up or do you use the starter? I feel inclined to look up how to install a kill switch and start button for for effective coasting.

You're doing great with your Tacoma! We all bump start with the clutch, AFAIK. The only time I use the starter is when I'm starting below 5 mph, or from a stop.

I loved my '98 taco. it got recalled, I got a fat check and got a (basically) free cobalt.
Eventually i'm going to get another truck, and it will be a tacoma.

Hows your frame holding up?

30mpg is insane in a truck

Yah, these are good little trucks. I don't think I could do better for economy and utility in a truck.

I think the frame's okay. I bout the truck a few years ago and had it inspected at the local dealership when I bout it. It's a salvage title from a front end hit, so I asked them to check out the frame in particular. I do need to drill those drain holes the service bulletins talk about.

Dang. Wish I could get that kind of mileage in the wagon. Maybe with more mods.
