I drove to my karate class which is about 35 miles made up of partly freeway, partly rural roads. I managed 44.3 MPG there, which was among my best for the trip. On my way back, I wanted to see if I could beat it. There were a construction zones on the freeway with posted speeds of 55 and 45mph. I did part of the drive with steady throttle, and part with cruise control. With the cruise control, I set it so the speedometer on my dash read 55, though the scangauge said I was doing 52 which was more accurate. When I got to the 65mph zone, I said screw it, and kept going the 55/52. When I was nearly home, my average gas mileage was close around 49mpg. But I live on a hill. So by the time I drove up the hill, my average gas mileage had dropped to 47.5. Not bad for a 2000 Honda Civic with an automatic transmission!
