I've been on worse roads than that stretch with Hägar
To avoid a massive detour with a previous car, I've come down a farmer's path on a hillside with a bunch of amused kids watching me.
It turned out the path was mostly used by folks trialling their 4x4s.
Yet it only took a few checks for clearance.
And I won't drive down a road if I can't make it up again
Our local 4x4 crowd is really a bunch of sissies

You did notice where I mentioned that the picture of that stretch really doesn't do the road justice? Low range in 2nd for most of it, and if you're not in 4WD you'd do a lot of wheel spinning.

50 mpg
In the 80s I pulled a half-bodied utility trailer to California and back behind the CRX and averaged 50 mpg at the double-nickel speed limit.Going out empty the rig weighed about 2,300 lbs,and 3,300 coming back with a load of batteries.
That's at 18.5 sq ft frontal area and Cd 0.35 for the car.No idea about the trailer.
So a gasoline pickup of 2000 lbs,18.5 sq ft,and Cd 0.35 would be 52 mpg (Honda tech, circa 1984).
It would be a gutless-wonder on grades, and you'd be rowing through the gears, but on flat land, she'd sing.
With a truck the size of the T-100,I don't think it's possible on gasoline to hit 50.
47.8 is the all-time record for mine so far, pulling the trailer up in Colorado with a perfect 20 mph tailwind (only a 45-mph airspeed).

Thats sort of the way antique granny geared 4 or 6 banger trucks were, they would pull most anything but topped out at 50-55mph, they were designed for run time and being capable of pulling a load not how quickly. They didn't have the right motor tech or CD but at one point trucks were more focused on economy than they likely are now. Many of the really "old" trucks would get better day to day mileage than many of the semi modern equivalents. My fathers 48 seemed to get around 20ish mixed driving, might have been his driving habits but I doubt it.
Its unfortunate purpose built stripper trucks with good payload but a narrow body with a moderate CDa aren't really available in this country. They have uses but the guy who buys for show would never want one.
Cheers
Ryan

I was talking to a plumber several years back about my truck and what mileage it got because he was curious. At one point he said he would like to be able to buy smaller trucks but because he couldn't list a truck as a buisness vehicle if it was below a something like 6500lbs, which meant that a smaller more efficient vehicle would actually cost him more.

Washington's Steven Chu working for energy efficiency on one hand, and Washington's Treasury Dept.scuttling his work with the U.S.Tax Code on the other.
You just gotta love it!
I don't know how Admiral Mullins makes it through one day.
